From the Channel 4 Revelations strand come Muslim and Looking for Love (1x60’) by Crescent Films and Muslim School (1x60’) by Rise Films. The former examines the increasing difficulty Muslim people have finding love in today’s society. Might the answer lie in marriage bureaus that offer an alternative to arranged marriages or the western dating scene? Muslim School traces the lives of two girls from very different backgrounds in their first year at a Muslim faith school in Nottingham.
Continuing the religious theme, Electric Sky has also taken on Women Only Jihad (1x60’) made for Channel 4 by Crescent Films. In this film journalist Tazeen Ahmed follows a group of young Muslim women waging a campaign for greater access to mosques for women in Britain.
From UK producer Athena Films comes a four-part series on women who have relationships with murderers on Death Row. Made for Sky and the Crime and Investigation Network, Death Row Dates (4x60’) is a fascinating insight into a very taboo love.
Two new films from Australian producers have been added to Electric Sky’s slate. From multi award-winning production company, Kaufmann Productions, comes Lizard Kings (1x60’). This insightful documentary on the amazing and unexpected intelligence of monitor lizards was made in association with Arte, WDR, Nova and ABC Australia.
Tackling Peace (1x60’), from Dreamstone Productions, is an inspirational story of Israelis and Palestinians attempting to set aside their differences and play on the same side in an international Australian football competition in the name of peace. Narrated by Hugo Weaving, this film shows the world a different picture to the bloody images pervading the evening news.
